Junior Operations Engineer

IPTP Networks a Tier-1-class-network Internet Service Provider (ISP) is currently seeking for Junior OPS engineer to join our team in Amsterdam office. To fit in to our experienced operations team providing connectivity through 170+ ON-NET data centres worldwide you’ll need a good knowledge of:

  • ICT & networking;
  • Patching;
  • Electrical & mechanical infrastructure (medium and high voltage systems, UPS, emergency power, security, refrigeration and climate control systems).

Primary focus will be on datacenter operations, inspection and maintenance of our co-locations and on-site data center, including but not limited to the following:

  • Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances in our data center
  • Facilitating installation of servers and network equipment with smart hands in remote co-locations
  • Managing power and space including monitoring and capacity planning
  • Managing cable inventory
  • Replacing hard drives/memory/transceivers and other hardware related tasks as required by our server and network teams
  • Participating in planning moves or new build-outs
  • Getting equipment to and from remote colocations including packing/shipping
  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of datacenter activities
  • Maintaining data center documentation
The requirements we have are as follows:
  • Previous data center or critical environment experience
  • Remote hands and eyes experience
  • Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment – SFPs, line cards, chassis
  • Ability to identify basic parts of servers – memory, network card, hard drives, etc…
  • Experience with identifying port locations for specific device manufacturers (Cisco, Supermicro)
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems using cat 5, cat 6, multi-mode and single-mode fiber
  • Familiarity with both power and communications cabling standards
  • Experience configuring and using cable testers for both fiber and copper to troubleshoot cabling issues
  • Understand overall ticket management process
  • Attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Strong documentation mentality
  • Independent, reliable and efficient approach to work
  • Good team player, highly motivated
  • Good in (technical) English, both in speech and writing, Dutch is a plus
  • Willing to work in a 24/7 shift pattern
  • European citizens only, ideally living locally.
